Aston Berkeley, the IT solutions and support expert, is proud to announce that it is developing a brand-new programme to aid businesses affected by the introduction of the new plastic packaging manufacturing tax.
The tax, which is being enforced by the UK Government from 1st April 2022, is set to affect businesses which manufacture or import 10 or more tonnes of plastic packaging within a 12-month period.
Aston Berkeley is offering a state of the art add on to all Sage 50 users – which will provide a simple and cost-effective solution to the required legislation.
Planned since 2018, the plastic packaging tax is a government scheme which will impose a tax on the manufacture of plastic packaging with less than 30 per cent recycled content.
From 1st April 2022, businesses will be required to keep records of weight details of each plastic packaging component, evidence of recycled content, and evidence of why any exemption applies.
If the tax applies, it’s charged at £200 per tonne of packaging. The business must register ahead of the first quarterly recording period (June 2022) and a tax return must be filed.
Plastic packaging with 30 per cent or more recycled content isn’t affected, but the use of all plastics must be logged by businesses.
Sage 50 Accounts offers no solution for product specific charges to accommodate a tax like this. Plastic Packaging Tax for Sage 50 solves this issue with an automated workflow using assigned tax products, enabling visibility on sales orders, and tracking and analysis with Sage reports.
Import plastic packaging tax products into Sage seamlessly by completing the importable Excel spreadsheet, and triggering the import with the Create PTT Stock button directly within Sage.
All plastic packaging tax products created in Sage are assigned the same category code, allowing for easy analysis with standard Sage reporting.
Plastic packaging tax charges can be calculated automatically for any sales order using the Calculate PPT button within Sage. The order is updated with lines for any corresponding plastic packaging tax products, with the product weight and the current tax rate used to calculate the correct charge.
The plastic tax report compiles a useful breakdown between the selected time period using invoices held in Sage.
System configuration is flexible allowing for export products and customers, and selected customers excluded from plastic tax.
With the plastic packaging tax rate set annually by the UK Government, the tax rate value used by the system is easy to adjust.
